The PS of MINIJUST officiates the closing of the Training on negotiation Skills and ADR

On Friday 2nd September 2016, the Permanent Secretary/Solicitor General of MINIJUST, Ms Kalihangabo Isabelle, issued certificates of Completion to 37 Legal Advisors of different public Institutions.

Training participants felt they learnt a lot from the course. This course provided them with the knowledge about the Dimensions of Negotiation, Negotiating and Managing the Process of Negotiation; they were acquainted with ADR methods and their comparative advantages with litigation. According to their representative, this training enabled them to master the principles that govern the choice between arbitration and the courts and the use of court support in relation to a matter pending in arbitration; they can follow arbitration procedure and participate in the same as arbitrators and as counsel, They can organize and go through the process of mediation swiftly and with high prospects of success as mediators and as counsel.

While closing this training, the PS recognized the role of ILPD in making this training successful. She said that this training will allow Legal advisors to facilitate in conflict resolution trough negotiation and according to her this will reduce pending cases in courts, money spent there, and it is more pacific.

The negotiations will be facilitated by a committee in charge of out of court settlement which will be put in place; trainees were also briefed on the organization and functioning of these committees. Thanks to this training, Trainees can steer their negotiating counterparts from a resistant, intransigent attitude to a cooperative, forth-coming interaction and thus change difficult negotiations into successful ones.
