Friday 14th March 2014, Senator Celestin SEBUHORO lead discussions about the NDI UMUNYARWANDA PROGRAM a program that aims at healing and unifying Rwandans dubbed, NdiUmunyarwanda (loosely translated as “I’m Rwandan”), is ‘trending’ in the country. The program has its roots from YouthConnekt dialogue to help Rwandans, especially the youth, openly talk about their history, repent, forgive, and heal in the post-Genocide period. During this session Senator SEBUHORO gave an overview of the history of Rwanda before and after 1994 showing how bad leadership based on segregation brought the country into darkness and finally into the 1994 Genocide against Tutsi. His presentation was followed by the documentary that show the history of Leadership in Rwanda before and after 1994. Given the opportunity to express themselves ILPD Staff members appreciated the program and assured the Senator that they will give their participation in the sensitization of NDI UMUNYARWANDA in their villages so that Rwandan society becomes fully united. The NDI UMUNYARWANDA program comes in as a unity and reconciliation program after several others like GACACA Courts. it is confirming that Rwandans are equal today as said by the Prime Minister Dr. Pierre Damien HABUMUREMYI talking to the New Timesnews paper said: “No Rwandan gets loans, fertilizers, scholarship or medical insurance based on being Hutu, Tutsi or Twa. Rwandan identity prevails above any other. Seeking the truth, expressing the remorse for what happened during the Genocide, encouraging apologies and forgiveness and taking measures to ensure that what happened never happens again are the foundation of NdiUmunyarwanda program.’
