On June 2, 2024, ILPD employees and students joined other community members in Busasamana Sector for community sports activity on a car free day organized by the National Women's Council. With the theme "Sports is Health: Women, Let's Go," the event emphasized the importance of physical activity for health and well-being.

Organized by the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion, the event was part of a nationwide initiative. At the Nyanza stadium, the event drew an enthusiastic crowd of around 4000-4500 participants, predominantly women and girls, along with partners from various sectors who came to show their support.

Dr. Denyse Mukandori, the Coordinator of the National Women's Council, Nyanza District, addressed the participants. She highlighted the significant role women have played in Rwanda's development over the past 30 years and encouraged the community to continue their collaborative efforts towards building a prosperous nation. Emphasizing good health practices.

Mukandori stated, “Our message today is to continue recognizing the role of women in our country's development over the past 30 years, regularly visiting health centers to prevent non-communicable diseases, empowering women, participating in government programs, and preserving the achievements made so far.”

The guest of honor, the Mayor of Nyanza District, Mr. Erasme Ntazinda, spoke highlighted the importance of sports and urged the National Women's Council to organize similar activities on a monthly basis. He emphasized the benefits of regular physical activity for both physical and mental health.

In his additional remarks, Mr. Ntazinda encouraged citizens to prepare for the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

“Let us participate by obtaining national IDs, correcting our details on the voters' list, ensuring our voting locations are accurate, and preparing for the elections on July 15, 2024. Also, participate in the campaign activities of the candidates, which will begin on June 22, 2024,” he said.

The event also featured free health screenings for non-communicable diseases for participants aged 35 and above, providing valuable health advice and promoting preventive health measures.
