ILPD’s Rector Officiates an Opening of a training of 15 Prosecutors from GFTU
On Tuesday, 18 March 2014, the Rector of ILPD Professor Nick Johnson opened the training in which 15 prosecutors of the Genocide Fugitive Tracking Unit (GFTU) have a four days training about Modern techniques of International Criminal Investigation.
The Genocide Fugitive Tracking Unit (GFTU) was founded in November 2007. Since then, it has been at the forefront of Rwanda’s efforts to identify the whereabouts of genocide suspects who have settled abroad, to investigate the allegations against them and to cooperate with national prosecution services and international justice bodies to bring them to justice in their host countries or to facilitate their extradition to Rwanda.
This training aims at empowering the GFTU Prosecutors in investigation techniques that have international standards. The course is intended to provide fundamental knowledge in modern skills and techniques necessary to conduct field investigations into serious violations of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) in the context of international criminal proceeding. Brenda Hollis and SIBOYINTORE John Bosco are the two trainers of this training.
