Sunday July 9, 2023 ILPD welcomed over 70 students admitted in its programme of post graduate diploma in Legal Practice, part time weekend intake 13. The opening was officiated by the Acting Rector of the institute, Dr. Yves Sezirahiga.

The program consists of eight modules namely general legal culture, interviewing, the course of civil suits, the criminal process, the alternative disputes resolutions, civil and commercial transactions, contract drafting and principles legislative drafting and finally the practice management; and will be undertaken from UR-Gikondo Campus for a period of twelve months.

Different academic staff, Librarian, quality assurance and head of finance introduced the trainees to diploma in legal practice requirements and facilities available. Welcoming the trainees, Dr. Yves Sezirahiga expressed his gratitude to receive them at ILPD, informed them the advantage of joining DLP as this diploma in legal practice is a requirement for lawyers who wish to join the judiciary, prosecution and the Bar.

He further requested the trainees to give value for money by attending courses regularly and ignore the social life as failure to get 85% of the attendance will lead to non-sitting for the exam thus leading to the failure of the programme.

Innocent Harindintwari, a newly admitted student in DLP part time weekend intake 13 is proud of joining the school and this will help him achieve his goal of becoming advocate in the future.

He said, “I am really proud to be one of the students who were allowed to study at ILPD because this school will help me achieve my dream of becoming a legal professional. I intend to become a lawyer by profession (Advocate) so ILPD will help me to learn the legal language, professional ethics, and trial procedure in dealing with both criminal and civil cases.”

ILPD is now running nine intakes of DLP which consist of 605 students from different countries of Africa namely Cameroon, Gambia, South Sudan, Rwanda and others. Courses are offered in at Nyanza, at ILPD Kigali campus, in Musanze, UR Remera campus and UR Gikondo campus.
