ILPD conducts its 5th Graduation ceremony
On the 19th May 2016, the chancellor of ILPD Dr Mugisha Sebasaza Innocent confirmed 436 Diplomas in legal practice to ILPD graduands. The graduates include advocates, judges and prosecutors from Rwanda and the region.
In his welcome remarks, the Ag. Rector of ILPD Aimable Havugiyaremye said that the Institute has become a centre of attraction to trainees from several countries whereby countries like Burundi, Kenya, Uganda, Malawi, Zambia, South Sudan and Cameroon are now represented. He also recognized and thanked the ministry of justice, the ministry of education and other stakeholders (NPPA, Rwanda Bar Association, NCHR, Rwanda National Police, RCS, NCBS, etc) which in a way or another have contributed to the success of ILPD. The 5th Graduation was the first of its kind as had the specialty of having the biggest number of graduands since the institute started in 2008.
The minister of justice/Attorney General, Hon. Johnston Busingye who was the guest of honor, congratulated the graduands and urged them to become ambassadors of the Institute of Legal Practice and Development wherever they will be in their future careers. He assured them that the time spent at ILPD will make their life better in all its aspects “when lawyers like you are taking time to sharpen legal skills it is a sure way not only to build a strong profession but a strong economy as well” he said.
Hon Edda Mukabagwiza who took a speech as the graduates representative, recognized efforts of the institute to make their studies of high standards and assured the public that the skills acquired from ILPD will be like a bridge to their career success. So far, 996 advocates, judges and prosecutors have graduated at ILPD from 2008.
At the same date, The Hon. Minister of Justice/Attorney General officiated the groundbreaking of the construction of ILPD second phase, Its construction is expected to be completed in 18 months.
