ILO Trains Trainers of judges, lawyers and legal educators, on International Labor Standards

On 31/03/2014 - 04/04/2014, International Labor Organization via its International Training Center, conducted A training of Trainers for judges, lawyers and legal educators, on International Labor Standards at ILPD Nyanza. This training come from the project entitled “Awareness-raising and capacity building on human rights in Rwanda, with emphasis on labor rights”. The project started on 1st of May 2013 for duration of 18 months. The aims of this project are: To enhance the knowledge of journalists and media professionals of international labor standards and their ability to use them in their reports, thereby raising citizens’ awareness of human rights at work and their relevance to local social issues and challenges; To strengthen the knowledge of judges and lawyers of international labor standards and of other human rights instruments dealing with labor issues and their capacity to use them to resolve labor disputes, thereby reinforcing domestic case law on labor matters; and To raise the awareness of Parliamentarians on international labor standards and the role they are called to play on them. Speaking on behalf of the trainees, HITIMANA Jean Marie Vianney the vice president of the High Court recognized the role of the training in their everyday activities regarding its the content. The project is to be implemented in partnership with two Rwandan institutions: (1) the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD), and (2) the Rwandan Association of Journalists (ARJ). The contracting authority is the Ministry of Finance and Planning of Rwanda (MINECOFIN).
