Dr. Mispa FRI AWASUM: Championing Arbitration and Inspiring the Next Generation of Legal Practitioners

Completing the Diploma in Legal Practice (DLP) at the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD) was more than an academic milestone for Dr. Mispa FRI AWASUM it was a transformative journey that sharpened her skills and deepened her appreciation for the practice of law. Today, returning to ILPD not as a student but as a trainer, she describes the experience as an opportunity to give back by mentoring the next generation of legal professionals with the same passion that once inspired her.

With arbitration as her chosen specialization, Dr. Awasum emphasizes its central role in enabling access to justice. She highlights arbitration as a vital dispute resolution mechanism that not only saves time and costs but also preserves relationships and supports economic growth.

“Arbitration is very vital in society because it promotes access to justice, saves time and costs, and preserves relationships while fostering economic growth.”

As Managing Director of AGC Group and Manager of CIArb Rwanda Branch, Dr. Awasum brings both academic depth and professional expertise to her teaching at ILPD. She urges the legal community to embrace arbitration as a reliable and practical tool for dispute resolution in Rwanda and beyond.

Her message to her students is one of inspiration and challenge:

“Remain curious, ethical, and committed to excellence because the future of justice depends on your dedication and your ability to choose the right dispute resolution mechanisms to render justice through due process. The future of justice is yours to shape.”
