A Day of Recognition and Reflection: ILPD Staff Commemorate Labor Day

For celebrating the Labor Day, the top management and the staff of the Institute of Legal Practice and Development (ILPD), on May 3, 2024 came together to reflect on the Institute’s achievements in this fiscal year. It was also an opportunity to brainstorm on each one’s responsibility and to revisit interpersonal dynamics within the workplace.

The Vice Rector for Administration and Finance, Mr. SHIRIMPUMU Eric, gave a public lecture where he highlighted the significant strides made in job creation for the youth and the overall rebuilding of employment in Rwanda's public and private sectors since the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. Emphasizing the critical role of institutions like ILPD, Shirimpumu called for the evaluation and implementation of robust measures to further enhance job opportunities, underscoring employment as pivotal for personal development, organizational progress, and national prosperity.

Shirimpumu encouraged the staff to focus and improve the service delivery and achieve desired outcomes guided by strong values and professional conduct.

He said, “Following the Genocide against the Tutsi in 1994, the Government of Rwanda undertook reforms aimed at improving service delivery and achieving desired outcomes. For sustainability, it is essential that the country has employees who possess strong values and professional conduct in all sectors.”

The team also engaged in a thought-provoking discussion focused on improving different aspects of our professional lives. Led by our Human Resources Officer, Madam Jacqueline TUYIZERE, the conversation delved into the importance of fulfilling our duties diligently and cultivating positive behaviors and relationships within the workplace.

The highlight of the day was the vote of the "Employee of the Year" award, which recognized the exemplary performance of seven staff representing all the units. The best performer among the seven was Ms Nadine UMWANANKABANDI. The entire ILPD Community recognizes her outstanding dedication and service throughout the year 2023-2024.

The celebration of Labor Day at ILPD served as a moment of appreciation for hard work but also as an opportunity for introspection and collective growth. With a renewed commitment to their roles and relationships, the staff departed, poised to continue their journey of professional excellence and service to the Justice Sector.
