Welcome message

Rector ILPDThe Institute of Legal Practice and Development was officially opened by the Right Honourable Prime Minister, by laying the first stone of the new building of the institute in Nyanza.

The establishment of the ILPD is a result of recent reforms in the justice sector in Rwanda. One of the main objectives of these reforms is to strengthen the justice sector. The ILPD contributes to this objective through practical legal training for the whole justice sector. ILPD has the ambition to become the bridge between the Francophone and Anglophone world as well as between the common and civil law legal systems. ILPD has the ambition to serve as IHURIRO, a meeting place for lawyers – practitioners and academics alike – from within Rwanda, the region, Africa and the rest of the world.

After one year of its existence, the Institute of Legal Practice and Development is pleased to present its training services to members of the justice sector, other stakeholders, and the general public.

The training services offered by the ILPD are divided into two categories : the initial legal training also known as the Post Graduate Programme (PGP), and Continuing Legal Education (CLE). This brochure seeks to give basic information about the ILPD, its vision, mission, objectives and details about the training the institute offers. It is envisaged that the knowledge and practical skills imparted by the institute will improve the quality and efficiency of members of the justice sector in the administration of justice and the observance of the rule of law.

We invite you to join us in the ambitious task of strengthening the knowledge and skills of members of the justice sector and realizing the vision of the ILPD to be a centre of excellence in legal practice and development.
