This programme is the initial training programme for judges, prosecutors and lawyers. It is meant for starting professionals. However all already serving judges, prosecutors and lawyers have to pass through the programme also. The Diploma in Legal Practice Programme is set for 9 months, and comprises of:
a set of Common Courses (6 Modules/total 12 weeks), including practice in a Moot Court. Each module is focused on a particular skill and corresponding fields, aiming at being a bridge between the theory and practice of law. Trainees are confronted with cross-cutting cases and real or simulated situations, and required to participate, act and react.
a Comprehensive Examination where the trainees will be evaluated on their overall ability to analyze a case, finding the relevant law, draft and defend their legal opinion, whether in pleading or judging before a jury, and ultimately their ability to serve the public, and
a Specialized Training (3 Modules/total 6 weeks) with
a final Research Paper, and
an internship of three months. The Internship lasts 3 months and is done half up country (compulsory), and half at the choice of the trainee, even outside of the country.
The Diploma in Legal Practice Programme leads upon completion to a ‘Diploma in Legal Practice’.
The first intake of 2010 starts at the end of February, the second intake of 2010 will start in July.
Later in 2010 the ILPD hopes to be able to offer parts of this programme as a distance/part-time learning programme for those professionals who cannot leave their office for 6 months on a row. We invite you to indicate which modules have the highest priority to be developed in distance/part-time learning form.
